Thesis

Rocket Lab is the only scaled, vertically integrated US space company outside SpaceX, so it offers diversified exposure to the same launch and constellation build-out. After a 65% drawdown, the market prices the Neutron delay but gives little credit for a record backlog and 60%+ revenue growth.

How These Levels Were Set

Entry 54.00: area of recent closes (52.60 to 53.82 per TradingView and 24/7 Wall St) and the Oct 27 intraday low of 53.57 per Robinhood. The stock was about 58 intraday, so this is a pullback reference, not the last price. Price target $90: the Aug 10, 2026 high per Barchart, which was the pre-Q2-earnings peak and sits between the lowest consensus target ($64) and the mean ($102.15 per S&P Global). It is a retrace of roughly half the drop from 151.00 and requires no new high. Stop $35: round number far below the recent lows, about 7% under entry. The 52-week low of 37.57 is too far to be a practical stop. Support 51.65 is the recent session low and 52.40 is the 24-hour low per Coinbase. Resistance 61.93 is the early September low per Barchart, with 58.20 (Jul 29 low) as the nearer overhead level.

Catalysts
  1. 1Q3 2026 earnings, scheduled Nov 9, 2026 per Barchart and Yahoo: revenue vs the $250M to $265M guide, backlog vs $2.36B, and any Neutron timing detail.
  2. 2Neutron replacement dome passing ultrasonic testing and first-stage qualification milestones, expected before year-end 2026 with assembly and testing in Q1 2…
  3. 3Neutron first launch in 2027, with no date set per company statements.
  4. 4Iridium acquisition regulatory progress, with close expected mid-2027 per the Q2 call.
  5. 5New national security awards tied to Golden Dome and the FY2027 Space Force request, and Electron/HASTE cadence against the 90+ launch backlog.
Key Risks
  1. 1Neutron has slipped repeatedly, and the latest delay is the second major one. A further slip or a failed first flight would push out the free cash flow targe…
  2. 2SpaceX is absorbing sector capital. The sympathy rally has reversed, with RKLB down about 25% over three months and peers lower since April 20 (per 24/7 Wall…
  3. 3Valuation and dilution: the company is loss-making (TTM EPS about -0.27), and the market cap is about $34B against roughly $0.77B of trailing revenue. An equ…
  4. 4Share price volatility is very high. 60-month beta is 2.60 per Barchart, and the price moved from 151.00 to 37.57 within the 52-week range.
  5. 5Analyst targets may be stale. Citizens cut its target from $130 to $90 on Oct 16 (per Yahoo), and 24/7 Wall St noted that several targets pre-date the Neutro…
Read the Full Thesis
The market has used RKLB as a funding source since SpaceX listed. Per Motley Fool on Jun 16, 2026, SpaceX (SPCX) became the largest IPO in history and pulled capital away from other space names. Per 24/7 Wall St on Oct 22, 2026, SpaceX rallied after its Q3 results while six peer space stocks have fallen since April 20. RKLB is about 60% below its $151.00 high of May 27, 2026, and was roughly $58 intraday on Oct 27 per Robinhood. Neutron then slipped to 2027 on Oct 14 after voids were found in a carbon-composite dome, per Bloomberg and Space.com. The long case is that the sector re-rating SpaceX forced is intact, and RKLB is the liquid way to own it without a single-company concentration in SpaceX. The 'lifts all boats' argument has not worked since June. The better framing is diversification. Government and commercial customers want a second launch and satellite supplier, and RKLB is the obvious one. Per the Q2 release, it designs, builds and launches its own spacecraft, and it agreed to buy Iridium, with close expected mid-2027 per the Q2 call. The operating numbers support this. Per the Q2 2026 release (Aug 10), revenue was a record $234M, up 62% year over year, and backlog was a record $2.36B, up 137%. Q3 revenue guidance is $250M to $265M. The launch manifest is above 90 missions. Q1 GAAP gross margin was 38.2% and liquidity exceeds $2B (per the Q1 release). Awards include a $397M Space Force SB-AMTI contract for Flatellite spacecraft that will launch on Neutron. Per Robinhood, 84% of 25 ratings are Buy and none is Sell. Consensus target is $102.15 per S&P Global via StockAnalysis, with a range of $64 to $150. What has to be true: Electron and space systems keep delivering sequential growth while Neutron is rebuilt; first-flight hardware passes testing in Q1 2027 (per NASASpaceflight); and the Iridium deal closes without heavy new dilution. Management targets free cash flow positive 18 to 24 months after the first successful Neutron flight (per the Q2 call summary). The valuation is still demanding, around 34B market cap against about $0.77B of trailing revenue, so the thesis depends on backlog conversion rather than on SpaceX sympathy.
