Thesis

AMD's data-center mix is shifting toward MI450/Helios GPUs and share-gaining EPYC CPUs, with gigawatt-scale customer commitments giving unusual visibility into 2027. Q4 2026 to Q1 2027 is when that visibility turns into reported revenue.

Advanced Micro Devices designs a variety of digital semiconductors for markets such as PCs, gaming consoles, data centers (including artificial intelligence), industrial, and automotive applications. AMD's traditional strength was in central processing units and graphics processing units used in PCs and data centers. However, AMD is emerging as a…

How These Levels Were Set

Last close was 649.42 on Oct 6 (per CNBC quote page). Entry 633.91 is a retest of the prior record close of Oct 2 per 24/7 Wall St, about 2% below the last close. Price target 800 is the highest of the Oct 6 target raises (Citi, 575 to 800, per StockAnalysis) and is about 23% above the last close. The average analyst target of 619.51 is below spot, so it does not work as a long target. Stop 584.90 is the breakout level cited by TradingKey, about 10% below the last close; it is a technical reference and not a valuation floor. Support 633.91 is the prior record close. Resistance 658.52 is the 52-week high set Oct 6 per CNBC.

Catalysts
  1. 1Q3 FY26 results on Nov 3, 2026, after the close: Helios/MI450 revenue start and the Q4 guide.
  2. 2Q4 and Q1 2027 prints: the MI450 step-ups and the first gigawatt-scale deployments (Anthropic's first GW is slated for 1H27).
  3. 3UBS conference on Dec 1 and Barclays conference on Dec 9: management commentary on 2027 Data Center growth and supply.
Key Risks
  1. 1Valuation leaves little room: the stock trades above the $619.51 average analyst target, and a Helios slip would hit a high-beta name hard.
  2. 2Rack-scale supply is tight (wafers, packaging, HBM), and management flags slightly lower gross margin in Q4 and 2027 from the MI450 ramp.
  3. 3AI capex is concentrated in a few funding-dependent customers (OpenAI, Meta, Anthropic), and export-policy changes or an AI-lab funding stumble could hit the…
Read the Full Thesis
Q2 revenue was a record $11.5B, up 50% year over year, and Q3 is guided to about $13B. That Q3 guide was above the $12.5B consensus. Data Center revenue was $6.7B, up 107%. The driver was EPYC and MI350 GPUs. What changed in the August report was visibility. MI450 production shipments begin at the end of Q3, followed by a "very significant step up" in Q4 and a further increase in Q1 2027. OpenAI (6 GW), Meta (up to 6 GW) and Anthropic (up to 2 GW) are committed, and management expects Data Center revenue to more than double in 2027. The market is already paying for a lot. The trailing P/E is about 163 on a roughly $1T market cap. The long case is that earnings, not the multiple, now carry the stock. Management guides server CPU growth above 80% in 2H26 and above 70% in 2027. That means the GPU ramp is not the only leg. For this to hold, Helios racks have to ship on schedule and hyperscaler and AI-lab capex has to stay funded. Policy and export-control rules are the macro variable to watch.
Updates Since Publication
  1. Oct 13, 2026 · Price 605.52

Weekly check-in: On Track. Helios shipping on schedule and targets rising; price pullback tested the stop level The evidence behind the thesis improved modestly this week. Per a Finanztrends report, Lisa Su confirmed Helios shipments began in fiscal Q3 as planned, and several brokers raised targets on server-CPU demand. There is still no new reported revenue or guidance before the Nov 3 print, so the Q4 step-up is unproven. The stock fell from its Oct 6 high of $658.52, and that pullback matters more for the case's levels than for its fundamentals.

  2. Oct 14, 2026 · Price 570.82

Stop hit on Oct 14 at 570.82. Close the case and note what you learned, or move the level if your view changed.

  3. Oct 20, 2026 · Price 538.05

Weekly check-in: On Track. Funding worries hit the stock, but Helios evidence is intact ahead of Nov 3 No new company-specific results, guidance or filings arrived this week. The drop since the last check-in came from sector and financing worries, not from a Helios slip or a customer loss. Analysts still expect a beat-and-raise on Nov 3, and Q4 guidance is where the thesis gets tested. The 'AI capex stays funded' condition is the one under visible pressure.
