Thesis

GME has a retail holder base and an active social-media following that have driven large price moves before, and it now has record operating income, about $10 billion of gross liquid assets and CEO open-market buying behind it. The case is that a retail-led re-rating can start from a base the stock did not have in earlier meme cycles.

How These Levels Were Set

Entry 24.41: the price at which Cohen bought 700,000 shares on Oct 2 (13D/A). It is a pullback level about 8% below the Oct 19 close of 26.44, not a forecast. Price target 32.00: the GME WS warrant strike and the retail focal point, about 21% above the last close. At 504.5 million shares it implies a market cap of about 16.1 billion, which I compared with roughly 10.3 billion of gross cash and eBay holdings. Stop 22.40: just below the 200-day average of about 22.49 (ChartExchange) and the 22.94 Cohen purchase of Sep 21. A close below it would break the recent base. Support 22.94: Cohen's Sep 21 purchase price, with the 50-day average (about 21.64) as the next level down. Resistance 28.30: the 52-week high set Oct 15, 2026. Beyond that, 32.00 is the next reference.

Catalysts
  1. 1Oct 30, 2026: GME WS warrants ($32 strike) expire at 5pm ET and stop trading that morning, a focal point for retail attention around the 32 level.
  2. 2Q3 FY26 earnings, expected about Dec 8-9, 2026 (date not confirmed by the company in my sources). Zacks consensus is EPS of 0.20 and revenue of 722.5 million…
  3. 3Use of the 2.0 billion buyback authorization, with none repurchased as of Aug 1 per the Q2 10-Q.
  4. 4eBay developments: Bloomberg reported on Aug 10 that Cohen is weighing a partnership or joint venture in place of the 56 billion bid. An announcement would l…
  5. 5A daily close above the 28.30 high (Oct 15) with a rise in short interest or days to cover in the next FINRA reports (bi-monthly).
Key Risks
  1. 1Earnings are shrinking at the sales line. Q2 net sales fell about 19% year on year to 790.2 million on store closures, the France divestiture and the prior-y…
  2. 2Earnings quality: net income includes interest income (77.1 million in Q2) and mark-to-market derivative gains (166.3 million in Q2), so the 17x trailing P/E…
  3. 3Retail momentum may not repeat. Analysts argue the retail dollars behind the 2021 and 2024 rallies are unlikely to return, and institutions were net sellers…
  4. 4Capital allocation risk: eBay rejected the roughly 56 billion bid as not credible. A renewed or larger bid funded with GME stock or debt could dilute holders…
  5. 5Limited fundamental anchor: Cohen's performance award was withdrawn, and published analyst targets are sparse and well below the market (a MarketBeat consens…

What the market is pricing: GME closed at 26.44 on Oct 19, 2026, about 7% below the 52-week high of 28.30 set on Oct 15 and about 49% above the Aug 20 low of 17.79 (price data per Yahoo Finance and ChartExchange). The market cap is about 13.3 billion on 504.5 million shares. Trailing P/E is about 17x, though sources disagree on forward P/E: StockAnalysis shows 14.3x and Zacks shows 24.6x against an industry 14.8x. Sell-side coverage is thin, so price is set mostly by flows and positioning rather than analyst models. Why the client's view may be right: the stock has a retail owner base that behaves differently from a normal retailer's. ChartExchange shows about 74.6 million shares in Direct Registration, roughly 15% of shares outstanding by my arithmetic. Short interest was 10.4% of float at Sep 30, with about 4 days to cover (FINRA via ChartExchange). That is far below the 15%+ seen in early 2026 but still enough to add fuel if buying picks up. The 1-month move of roughly +18% to +33%, depending on the source, came with no change in the earnings outlook. That suggests flow is already returning. The fundamentals mean this is not a pure sentiment trade. Per the Q2 FY26 release (Sep 8), operating income was 160.2 million, the highest Q2 in company history. Collectibles sales grew 57% to 356.3 million, or 45.1% of net sales. Management raised FY26 Adjusted EBITDA guidance to above 650 million. Per the Q2 10-Q, cash and digital assets were 5.35 billion and the eBay stake was 4.9 billion, about 10.3 billion gross against a 13.3 billion market cap. The 2025 convertible notes of about 4.2 billion (per the ARS) are a liability, so net of them the figure is about 6.1 billion. A 2.0 billion buyback authorization is in place with no repurchases as of Aug 1. CEO Ryan Cohen bought about 3.1 million shares in the open market between Sep 21 and Oct 13, at 22.94 to 26.98 (per 13D/A filings via TheFly). Insider buying near the highs is the kind of signal that retail communities amplify. What has to be true: (1) retail attention keeps rising into the Oct 30 warrant expiry and the December earnings; (2) the 28.30 high breaks on volume, which forces short covering; (3) Q3 shows collectibles growth continuing to offset the decline in legacy hardware and software sales; (4) the buyback is used or the eBay position is monetised or partnered rather than lost in a larger bid.
Updates Since Publication
  1. Oct 20, 2026 · Price 26.44

Weekly check-in: On Track. Insider buying and warrant focal point confirmed; estimates and price are unchanged Little is new this past week, and nothing breaks the case. Per an Oct 19 8-K, GameStop confirmed the Oct 30 warrant expiry, and Cohen's Oct 13 purchase filing added to the insider-buying leg. The Q3 setup is unchanged, with Zacks consensus still at EPS of $0.20 and revenue of $722.5 million. The stock closed Oct 19 at 26.44, down 1.38% on the day, so the 28.30 breakout has not happened.

  2. Oct 27, 2026 · Price 23.35

Weekly check-in: Weakened. Price faded about 12% into warrant expiry; fundamentals and estimates unchanged The retail-flow leg of the thesis lost ground this week while the fundamental leg did not move. Per ChartExchange, GME closed at 23.35 on Oct 27, down from 26.47 on Oct 20 and about 17% below the 28.30 high. The shares are far from the 32 warrant strike, so the retail momentum the case needs into Oct 30 is not showing in price. I found no new results, guidance, filing or eBay news, so only the price-dependent conditions have worsened.
